Hospital wards and Elective Care Unit refurbishment, Aintree

A collaborative programme of refurbishment works were delivered at Aintree Hospital over a three year period including various wards and the Elective Care Unit.
The projects carried out were:
- Wards 9 and 11 – Value £1.7m
- Elective Care Unit – Value £550k
- Wards 8 and 10 – Value £1.8m
- Wards 14 and 15 – Value £1.6m.
Works included the total strip out of all wards including existing services. Refurbishment and fit out works were carried out in four bed bays with en-suite showers; single bed side rooms with en-suite showers; staff areas; relative and utility rooms; day rooms; central nurse station and reception; offices and corridors. All wards received full renewal of M&E services including a new plant room.
Following completion of Wards 9 and 11, a further contract was secured with the Trust to reconfigure areas on the third floor of the Elective Care Unit to form a new Gastroenterology Unit. Works included the creation of a reception, offices, consultation rooms and an operating theatre.
Whilst we were undertaking these works the Client awarded a further project for the refurbishment of Wards 8 and 10. Following completion, the refurbishment of Wards 14 and 15 were awarded.
All the areas of work were adjacent and/or under live and operational areas. The schemes were all completed on time and within budget in a live, occupied and busy hospital environment.
John Turner’s in-house joinery facility manufactured and fitted the bespoke nurse’s reception desks and fitted furniture throughout the various wards all to Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) standards.
