Chancellor's Court Student Accommodation, Ormskirk

Client: Edge Hill University

Value: £13m

After successfully completing Phases 1, 2 and 3, John Turner was awarded Chancellor’s Court, Phases 4 and 5, student accommodation. This project comprised of 386 bedrooms in seven blocks (A-G) with two clusters in each block made up of eight bedrooms.

The three storey blocks were designed and constructed utilising the same techniques as the previous three phases to meet the tight and fast track programme.

Each cluster has its own spacious kitchen and dining area featuring energy use displays, LED low energy light fittings and individual controls as well as IT connectivity and hardware in each of the eight ensuite bedrooms.

The central plant room, located in the basement of Block E, provides a wet heating system to all of Chancellor’s Court accommodation supplemented by the roof mounted solar PV panels.

External works included hard and soft landscaping as well as a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) for surface water.

A lesson learnt from previous phases and end user feedback resulted in the kitchen and dining space being increased in floor area to provide spacious communal facilities.

The project was successfully completed and progressively handed over within 24 weeks in order to meet the September student intake.

The project achieved a Considerate Constructors score of 35/40 and was awarded Performance Beyond Compliance.
