Lancaster University
This new extension to the Lancaster University Management School (LUMS), named the West Pavilion, is a five-storey contemporary building containing three new lecture theatres, two executive teaching suites and three floors of work space for academics and staff.
The 5667m2 facility also accommodates social breakout and informal learning spaces, academic and support staff offices, along with a large feature atrium and new reception area linking to the existing LUMS facilities.
As a notable gateway building for the campus, the building façade has a full curtain walling system with opaque infill panels at the upper floor levels. This appearance is enhanced with precast concrete pilasters and beams at ground floor level.
Our in-house joinery division manufactured and installed the timber rafts, which have been used extensively throughout the building for acoustic control and visual aesthetics.
Passive environmental systems have been used, utilising natural ventilation, heating and lighting. A BREEAM Excellent rating has been achieved.
