Southport College is a leading provider of vocational education, committed to offering outstanding learning environments that support students’ academic and practical development. John Turner Construction is proud to have worked alongside the college to deliver the successful refurbishment of the Keith Pennington and Tim Beer Buildings, a project made possible through capital funding from the Department of Education.

The Pennington Building now features modernised spaces designed specifically for Construction T Level students. The ground floor has been expanded to include a larger brickyard, upgraded flooring and bespoke end-point assessment bays for bricklaying students. On the first floor, two fully equipped carpentry and joinery workshops have been created, alongside a multi-discipline area tailored for tiling and wallpapering. The second floor has been transformed to accommodate two Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) rooms, dedicated theory classrooms and a multi-skills classroom equipped with advanced tools such as laser cutters and tensile machines. These improvements provide students with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment, ensuring they are well-prepared for careers in the construction industry.

In the Tim Beer Building, the first floor has been redesigned to support Health & Science T Level students. The refurbishment includes two mock hospital wards that replicate real-world healthcare environments, featuring hospital beds, privacy curtains and industry-standard medical equipment. Dedicated classroom spaces have also been introduced to support both theoretical learning and practical skill development. Additionally, accessible utility rooms and water closets have been incorporated to create a realistic training environment where Health & Social Care students can practice essential care skills.

Delivered with minimal disruption to ongoing college activities, the project reflects John Turner Construction’s commitment to quality, collaboration, and supporting the next generation of skilled professionals through high-quality learning spaces.
