MUIR GROUP HOUSING ASSOCIATION
John Turner Construction delivered this social housing project consisting of 20 new homes at Barkerhouse Road in Nelson, transforming the derelict gardens of the former Great Marsden Hotel site.
The project was a collaboration between the John Turner Construction Group, Muir Group Housing Association, Stanley Investments and Homes England. This ensured the delivery of affordable, high-quality housing while revitalising a neglected site.
The development includes 10 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom timber-framed, two-storey houses with buff brick, grey framed UPVC windows and grey interlocking concrete roof tiles. Each property has landscaped gardens and off-street parking.
The site was designed around a large protected Copper Beech tree, creating a focal point and enhancing the community feel. This project replaced a derelict site with a vibrant residential community. The new homes provide a modern, high-quality living environment, with landscaped gardens and a cul-de-sac layout fostering community interaction.
These new homes were constructed to high levels of sustainability incorporating the principles of Secure by Design while also applying the Building for Life standards.
