Building the Future of Breast Cancer Care: Construction Underway on National Breast Imaging Academy in Manchester

We are proud to announce that construction has commenced on the National Breast Imaging Academy (NBIA) at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester. As the principal contractor for this transformative project, the John Turner Construction Group is honoured to play a pivotal role in shaping a facility that will revolutionise breast cancer detection and care across the UK.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by breast cancer survivor Rebecca Hartley and Coronation Street actor Sue Cleaver, both of whom spearheaded the fundraising campaign alongside Prevent Breast Cancer and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity (MFT Charity). Joined by MP Mike Kane and other key representatives, the event marked the culmination of a three-year fundraising effort.

This advanced Academy will provide vital training for 50 breast imaging specialists annually, equipping professionals from apprentices to radiographers to support communities nationwide. Once operational, the facility will also significantly expand breast screening services in Manchester, adding up to 13,000 appointments each year. Located adjacent to The Nightingale Centre, one of Europe’s largest purpose-built breast centres, the NBIA is positioned to become a cornerstone of breast cancer care and education.
