Burnley Borough Council
This project involved the construction of a new bus station and lobby, built on a curved and sloping site, incorporating 11 stands, a travel centre and electronic passenger boards in an internal street at the edge of Burnley town centre.
The curving structure provided ancillary accommodation blocks throughout the middle of the building. Glazed walls, the full height of the bus station, provided natural light with an exposed structural frame creating open spaces in the bus parking areas.
The works were phased and carried out in a busy public environment, completed on time and within budget.
The project received the Bus Industry Infrastructure Category Award and the bus station is one of the safest in Britain achieving SafeMark, the prestigious safety award.
