John Turner Construction is pleased to announce the commencement of a major refurbishment and upgrade project at Chorley All Seasons Leisure Centre, delivering significant improvements to both the facility’s fitness offering and its environmental performance.
Appointed as design and build contractor, John Turner Construction will undertake a comprehensive transformation of the existing leisure centre, enhancing the overall user experience while futureproofing the building through a series of energy-efficient interventions.
At the heart of the scheme is a substantial expansion of the existing gym provision. The upgraded facility will create a larger, more flexible fitness environment, with increased floor space and the introduction of a mezzanine level. This enhanced layout will accommodate state-of-the-art equipment, supporting a wide range of weight training and resistance-based activities and providing members with a high-quality, modern fitness experience.
In addition to the gym improvements, both wet and dry side changing facilities will be fully remodelled and refurbished. These works include upgrades to showering areas and toilet facilities, ensuring a more comfortable, accessible and contemporary environment for all visitors.
The project has been further supported by a Salix grant award, enabling the delivery of significant decarbonisation and fabric improvement works to the building. As part of this programme, energy efficiency measures will be prioritised in the early phases of construction. These works will include the installation of solar photovoltaic panels with associated battery storage, over-cladding of the existing roof and enhanced insulation to improve the building’s overall thermal performance, alongside upgrades to the existing mechanical and electrical systems.
These improvements will substantially reduce the building’s environmental impact, lower operational energy demands and contribute to long-term sustainability goals.
This investment represents a major enhancement to Chorley’s leisure infrastructure, supporting healthier lifestyles within the local community while protecting and extending the life of a key public asset.
