Everton Football Club

Development of Everton Football Club’s 55 acre facility at Finch Farm’s training complex and academy including phased construction works to provide a first team facility, grounds maintenance building and storage yard, academy education facility, under 16s and 18s pitch along with car parks.

First team facility: Design and build of a two storey first team building overlooking their training pitches including player’s relaxation lounge, offices, boardroom, treatment room, tactics theatre, changing rooms with showers, plunge pool and plant rooms. The hi-spec steel frame building offers large balconies overlooking the pitches with large glazed windows and doors providing natural light into rooms.

On the ground floor, the air-conditioned building entrance is clad in zinc encompassing the player’s boot store and kit room along with a treatment room offering physiotherapy and massage beds with offices for the team doctors and medical staff. Also on this floor are the tactics room with cinema style seating, viewing gallery and large screen for rear projection; changing facilities including two plunge pools, showers, lockers with individual power and usb sockets, seating, toilets and television and plant rooms.

At first floor level, a light glazed screened corridor features offices for the CEO, Director of Football, Club Secretary, Head of Medicine, first team management, analysts, coaches, scouts and the team psychologist incorporating glazed screens with electronic controlled automatic obscuring glass, large television screens and wipe clean wall along with daylight sensing PIRs. Along the corridor is a large open plan relaxation lounge providing sofas, pool table, large televisions, interactive games and kitchen area with access to a link corridor connecting to the existing main building’s dining room.

The building is constructed using strip and pad foundations, concrete ground floor slab, concrete holorib deck and composite clad roof. The balcony decking utilises a recycled timber/plastic resin and pathways are constructed with Rubber Crumb which is recycled rubber produced from scrap tyres.

Grounds maintenance building and storage yard: Construction of a single store groundsmen store and accommodation block including mess room, changing facilities and toilets. The vehicle, equipment and tool storage facility comprises of roller shutters and a dedicated wash down area with a water recycling system.

Academy education facility: Dedicated to providing a player-centred approach, an academy education facility was created which involved the extension, remodelling and refurbishment of an existing single storey building. Collaborating with local high schools to develop young people, the academy comprises classrooms with interactive ipads, televisions and whiteboard-type wipe clean walls; a lecture theatre-style room, offices and a management suite overlooking the pitch. Bi-folding doors were installed to create bigger rooms for presentations and awards. Window spaces were created around the former grounds maintenance store to provide natural light into the teaching facility with zinc cladding featuring around the windows and entrance.

Under 16s and 18s pitch: An existing show pitch was enhanced with the installation of pitch side spectator seating comprising of two covered tiered terraces, accommodating 102 and 153 seats, along with six LED floodlights around the perimeter of the pitch and a camera viewing tower. A new toilet block was constructed for use by the show pitch spectators which extended the Academy building.

Car parks: External works included the creation of an overflow car park including the installation of a sheet piled retaining wall and the utilisation of ‘BodPave’, an eco-friendly interlocking cellular paving grid system providing surface water infiltration. The newly created car park was landscaped with the installation of lights and CCTV. The first team car park was refurbished with the installation of new parking bay signage and parking space lines.
