A striking new main entrance at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH) was awarded to John Turner Construction after successfully completing the Cystic Fibrosis Ward.
LHCH, one of the highest performing hospitals in the country and the best place to receive care and treatment, provides specialist services to 2.8 million people across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. These include cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine including adult cystic fibrosis and diagnostic imaging both in the hospital and in the community.
Providing an enhanced experience for patients and visitors, this pleasing new entrance features floor to ceiling glazing creating an open and natural approach to the hospital. A reception, visitors lounge, waiting/convalescence space and supporting areas create this bright and colourful space with a break out zone at the forefront of the building. An interactive wall provides up to the minute information to patients and visitors.
Structural alterations and refurbishment works were carried out to create a reception and welcome facility while the hospital and wards remained operational and occupied.
A large LED illuminated sign is suitably positioned with memorial benches enhancing the entrance approach with a new paved frontage and designated drop off area.
John Turner’s in-house joinery facility manufactured and installed the bespoke hardwood timber cladding to keep the design theme consistent across the hospital’s estate.
