Wigan & Leigh College has appointed John Turner Construction as main contractor for the extension and refurbishment to their Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Construction.
Located on the Pagefield Campus, the three storey building will undergo improvements to:
- extend and refurbish areas to create an additive manufacturing laboratory incorporating a collaborative sharing zone, CAD room, exhibition space and laboratory teaching facilities
- refurbish areas to create two laboratories for thermo-fluid and materials processing
- extend and refurbish the refectory and Social Learning Hub including new dining facilities, shop, kitchen, office and storage room
- create a new plumbing workshop; brickwork and plastering workshops along with a new painting and decorating workshop.
Creating more space for the increased number of learners at the college, the completed works will replicate modern real working environments fully preparing students to be ‘work ready’.
The college will remain fully operational and occupied while the building work is carried out.
Anna Dawe, College Principal said, ‘the investment will see the expansion of facilities in response to significant growth in student numbers and will provide specialist accommodation for our degree apprentices and higher education students.’
