John Turner operates an Integrated Management System across the business. We are fully accredited to UKAS through NQA and certificated for quality ISO 9001, environment ISO 14001, energy ISO 50001 and health and safety ISO 45001.

Covid-19

The health, safety and wellbeing of our people is our number one priority and we have adapted our procedures to ensure all works are carried out safely.

We have and continue to review all of our sites to ensure that we are operating in a way that complies with the current Construction Leadership Council’s Site Operating Procedures and in line with Government guidance.

Quality

Quality management is recognised as a key factor in the successful completion of our projects. High quality construction endures… it enhances design and it sets the standards.

Our policies ensure that all projects are monitored and controlled in a uniform manner and are continually reviewed by management teams as each project proceeds.

Our approach to quality management is successfully demonstrated by the high level of repeat business we receive from our clients.

Energy

We recognise that all areas of operation consume energy and John Turner Construction Group is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions within the business.

To achieve this, we have produced an Energy Management System (EnMS) that has been assessed and accredited to BS EN ISO 50001.

This award will assist in minimising the impact on the environment, associated energy costs and encourage a culture that engages our employees and empowers them to identify energy saving opportunities as they materialise. This will ultimately result in operational changes in the long term to the benefit of the business, the planet and future generations.

Our people play an important role in our business and are fundamental in what we do.

With a workforce of over 200 personnel across the company, we invest in our employees promoting motivation and recognition.

Supply Chain

We manage an established and integrated local supply chain of approved subcontractors and suppliers with whom we have formed long-term working relationships. Through promoting sustainable procurement and working in partnership, we collaboratively add value, achieve high customer satisfaction and deliver success.

Our supply chain plays an integral role in delivering high quality and value to our clients which impacts on our reputation. We encourage our subcontractors and suppliers to have similar values and philosophy to that of our own as well as the importance of their impact on the environment through products, materials and services.

Approval of all potential supply chain members is through a rigorous selection procedure prior to being accepted on our approved list. Performance is monitored through regular review meetings in addition to sharing knowledge and best practice. This ensures supply chain partner level is maintained and continuous improvement is encouraged.

Health and Safety

Our proactive approach to health and safety management confirms our commitment to achieving the highest standards across all our operations.

We make every effort to ensure the working environment is safe for all employees and all other personnel who may have reason to be on or in the vicinity of our construction sites.

We continually endeavour to improve our safe systems of work in partnership with our supply chain. In support of this, we have implemented the collation, analysis and reporting of monthly safety statistics which ensures lessons are learnt to minimise a repeat of any accident or incident.

Our accident rate is measured against industry standards achieving results in the top 20% of those recorded on KPIzone. Great emphasis is placed on training in areas such as CSCS cards, CITB courses and regular on-site tool box talks. We have achieved recognised industry accreditations such as CSCS Platinum and CHAS.

We directly employ an experienced and professionally qualified Health, Safety & Environment Manager who undertakes regular site inspections and audits reporting directly to the Managing Director.

We are proud to have received an Order of Distinction from RoSPA for sustaining high levels of health and safety consecutively for sixteen years.

Environment

Our respect for the environment is well demonstrated by the sensitive redevelopment of our headquarters in Preston which was commended by the Civic Trust.

Company commitment goes further than waste reduction and recycling … it is a commitment to the total environment. Our development approach is in favour of regeneration of the built environment with sensitive restoration and respect for conservation areas.

Concern for the environment is projected beyond the commercial involvement, by association with the community in promoting the long-term harmonious development of the region.

Our responsibility for managing environmental and community impacts is driven by John Turner Construction Group and cascaded to our supply chain partners.

We operate an Environmental Policy as well as a Sustainable Construction Policy and have achieved numerous awards including the prestigious BREEAM Excellent for our work.

We register our sites under the Considerate Constructors Scheme and have received a number of awards for our high performance.

We are committed to managing and controlling waste and have signed up to WRAP’s “Halving Waste to Landfill” initiative. This in turn encourages our supply chain to provide a high level of recycling in products, materials and services as well as challenging the use of more environmentally friendly products.

Apprenticeships

The company has always offered young people a stable foundation for a rewarding career throughout its long history.

We invest in apprentices, year on year, offering young people from schools and community organisations the chance to learn a trade and develop their future.

Achieving the right balance of technical skills and on-site practical experience, trainees build long-term relationships with a dedicated mentor throughout their apprenticeship and working life at John Turner.

We currently have trainees in bricklaying, joinery, electrical and accounts undergoing apprenticeships as well as university graduates advancing their chosen career in a number of disciplines.
