Training Academy, Whitebirk, Blackburn

Client: Electricity North West Limited

Value: £2.2m

This new build facility is a bespoke two storey training academy including five workshops, offices, classrooms, amenity spaces and specialist practical training facilities for apprentices in the utilities sector.

The regional hub building was constructed with a steel frame and composite clad external walls. Featuring real life site conditions including the installation of 3m electricity poles, the new academy plans to train the next generation of engineers to help maintain the North West’s electricity supply and deliver a £2.6bn investment programme.

The design of the building complements Electricity North West’s strategy for a sustainable future by minimising energy demands of the building resulting in a low carbon footprint.

The Duke of Westminster officially opened the doors to the brand new training academy on Wednesday 30th October 2013.
