This contract comprised the fit out of the four storey Grade II listed Acre Mill building to provide an advanced healthcare facility. The scheme was the first project to be delivered by the Pennine Property Partnership for Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

Previously a wire mill in Lindley, Huddersfield; the new 21st century healthcare centre has the capacity of providing 200,000 outpatient appointments each year and comprises:

  • out-patient services
  • consultation rooms
  • minor operating theatre
  • x-ray suites
  • audiology / ophthalmology facilities
  • offices and meeting rooms
  • podiatry and phototherapy areas
  • pharmacy
  • administration offices and meeting rooms
  • coffee shop.

The 28 week programme of works included the design, management, co-ordination and completion of the fit out as well as M&E services and associated external works.

Securing a Building Conservation Award from RICS PR-Yorkshire, this Acre Mill healthcare project was also shortlisted for the MIPIM Awards. Achieving a Considerate Constructors score of 40/50 on two separate occasions, the converted landmark building also secured Performance Beyond Compliance. The auditor described the site as “commendable in this prominent location”. Awards include Considerate Constructors Bronze National Site Award and RICS Awards 2015 Building Conservation category.

The project was designed to achieve a BREEAM Good rating and environmental initiatives included heat recovery on the air handling units, natural ventilation techniques minimising energy use, LED lighting and high levels of insulation.
