John Turner Construction has been appointed to refurbish the Keith Pennington and Tim Beers Buildings at Southport College, after capital funding was secured from the Department of Education. This grant will enhance the college’s Health and Science T Level and Construction T Level programmes by creating modern learning environments.
In the Pennington Building, renovations will cover the ground, first and second floors for Construction T Levels.
Improvements will include spacious workshops, dedicated classroom spaces and new equipment for bricklaying, carpentry and joinery students. The ground floor will see an expansion of the brickyard, new flooring and bespoke end-point assessment bays for students. The first floor will feature two well-equipped carpentry and joinery workshops and a multi-discipline area for tiling and wallpapering. The top floor will house two Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) rooms, theory classrooms and a multi-skills classroom with advanced tools such as laser cutters and tensile machines, providing students with valuable practical experience.
In the Tim Beers Building, the first floor will be refurbished for the Health and Science T Levels, creating two spacious mock hospital wards with industry-standard equipment and dedicated classroom spaces. These wards will simulate real-life patient rooms, allowing Health and Social Care students to practice essential care skills in a realistic setting. Each ward will include hospital beds, privacy curtains, accessible water closets and utility rooms.
These refurbishment projects reflect Southport College’s commitment to exceptional learning, blending theoretical and practical education.
