John Turner Construction was awarded this contract to extend the Spire Yale Hospital in Wrexham, creating the Chesney Court Imaging, Orthopaedic, and Outpatient Centre. This development has enhanced the hospital’s capacity and services, enabling faster and more comprehensive patient care for North and Mid Wales, Shropshire and Cheshire.
Chesney Court was the first of two projects. It involved refurbishing and extending two office buildings into outpatient consultation and treatment spaces with state-of-the-art diagnostics facilities, including X-ray, ultrasound and a permanent MRI suite. This replaced the previously used mobile MRI unit, improving accessibility for patients with mobility issues and speeding up diagnosis times.
The centrepiece of Chesney Court is a single storey new build link with an exposed glulam frame, serving as both a structural and aesthetic focal point. This link connects the outpatient and diagnostics facilities, creating a cohesive environment that promotes wellness and ease of navigation.
This new facility offers a range of outpatient services through its nine consulting rooms, providing rapid access to specialties such as orthopaedics, urology, ophthalmology, gynaecology, general surgery and ENT. It also boasts advanced diagnostic services for cardiac disease, chronic and acute pain conditions. Additional amenities include a plaster room and a suite of offices for business administration and secretarial teams.
The opening of Chesney Court vacated a significant portion of accommodation within the existing Spire Yale Hospital, allowing for a phased refurbishment of the main hospital site. This included a minor surgery suite with dedicated admission and recovery spaces along with six new en-suite patient bedrooms. The hospital’s capacity has increased from 18 to 24 beds, facilitating more overnight care.
