This high profile project included the construction of a new ‘live science’ Discovery Centre at the world famous Jodrell Bank Observatory in Cheshire. Two single storey steel framed buildings formed the Planet and Space Pavilions, featuring bespoke cladding and glazed curtain walling..
The Planet Pavilion, the main welcome centre, included a stylish glass-walled cafeteria with outside terrace and spectacular views of the iconic Lovell telescope. An exhibition room featured a model of the Solar System educating visitors about the planets and Universe.
The Space Pavilion incorporated the main multi-purpose exhibition as well as events and education space providing hands on interactive activities based on the workings of Jodrell Bank.
John Turner also formed new trail paths to the Arboretum and surrounding landscaping to create a new Galaxy Maze and Space Garden. Works also included enhancements to the car park and surrounding trail paths.
The site was shortlisted for World Heritage Site status and now has the capacity to welcome over 80,000 visitors every year.
This project achieved a BREEAM Very Good rating and a Considerate Constructors score of 33.5 out of 40.
