Worden Hall is a collection of historic buildings, two of which are Grade II listed, situated at the heart of Worden Park, Leyland. Vacant occupancy of the majority of the Hall left it dilapidating with some structural problems and damage to the internal and external listed fabric. Three options to bring the buildings back in to use were put to public consultation and the feedback received concluded in favour of a community venue and cultural attraction.
Following a framework mini-competition, John Turner Construction was appointed to restore and refurbish the former coach house, kitchens and stables of Worden Hall to provide a range of community facilities including a café, retail space, offices and venue space for weddings and functions.
The theme of the project was to repair like with like, using traditional materials and methods. This has involved using handmade clay bricks, limestone dressings, lime render, natural slate roofing, structural timber, timber glulam frame, York stone paving, stone setts, re-using and repairing existing materials wherever possible.
John Turner Construction carried out intrusive survey works so that the construction of the buildings and their environs could be understood and so that appropriate repairs could be developed minimising intervention to the fabric, mitigating health and safety issues and avoiding historic below ground features.
We worked closely with the architect, heritage consultants, conservation officers and our skilled operatives and supply chain partners to deliver an exciting setting for local businesses and visitors.
